# How can I create my own metric?

Extensions **"Own metrics"** are designed to create metrics according to your own formulas and based on BES metrics. You can connect this extension additionally by purchasing access to it.

To get access, go to the Admin Panel. On the **Solutions** page, click _"Learn More"_ and leave a request for the test period. Our manager will contact with you to discuss all the details.

After that, you need to enter the _Metric name_ and select the _Group_, and enter the _Formula _for calculation.

You can enter the formula by several ways:

* enter manually using metrics from the pop-up list;
* apply mathematical and logical functions that can be entered manually or selected from the list provided.

The **"Add functions" **button, located to the right above the _"Formula"_ field, displays a list of available functions from which you can select the desired one.

After you filled all the fields, you click **"Apply"** button. The metric will be saved in the BES system and added to the table of the _"Metrics" _tab.

The created metrics are available for building visualizations in the **BI Dashboards** solution and for selection in the **BI** new report columns.

On the **Creating a visualization** page, from the list of available metrics, select the _Group_ in which you created the metric and drag it into the columns, rows, or body of the visualization.

To change the access settings for the created metric, in the **Admin Panel** on the **Metrics** page, click on the three dots next to the metric name and select _Edit_.

In the Edit panel, go to _Access settings_, which allows you to select the roles that will have access to this metric after saving.

|| Note! Access settings are related to role settings. If you give a certain role access to a new metric on the Metrics page, these changes will immediately affect the role settings on the Roles page and conversely.
